Captain America RebornIn the same month that Captain America finds rebirth, so too does dividebyzero.co.za rise from the ashes.

For all those that aren’t in the know, Captain America was shot by a sniper back in April 2007 and was declared dead in the aftermath of the superhero Civil War. The Marvel Civil War storyline, while perhaps no longer topical right now, created far reaching ripples within the Marvel universe. The two most controversial after-effects were definitely the death of Captain America and the heavily criticised reboot of the Spider-Man series seen in the “One More Day” story arc.

It seemed as if the Marvel writers of the various series hadn’t thought far enough ahead of the radical change the Civil War repurcussions would entail for the heroes and villains within their universe, leaving some with no resort but to either terminate or reboot entire storylines.

The Spider-Man reboot was by far the most radical. During Civil War, Spider-Man unmasked on live national television exposing Peter Parker as the “man behind the mask” to millions. In a storyline which relied so heavily on Spider-Man and Peter Parker being separate characters, Marvel suddenly found they had gone too far to reel things back in again with a most unorthodox Deus Ex machina. And this led to a four-part series culminating in the Spider-Man universe being rebooted back to the events before Peter Parker and Mary-Jane Watson became entangled in the relationship that leads to their marriage.

Well, Spider-Man might not have his Mary-Jane back (yet), but it looks like Captain America at least has his life back.

Here’s my version of Captain America Reborn #1:
Captain America and Bobby Ewing in the showerSharon Carter is laying sleeping in a large bed adorned with plush white pillows under a crystal white duvet. She stirs restlessly as she wakes up to a noise coming from the en suite bathroom. The shower is on – but she lives alone.

Sharon slips out from under covers and walks to the bathroom where the shower is steamed up from the occupant’s use. Opening the door, Bobby Ewing turns in shock with Captain America nuzzling him close.

This had better be how the first comic for the Captain America reboot goes or I’ll be disappointed!
